CC Filson’s Heritage Sportsman Bag
C.C. Filson Company’s Heritage Sportsman bag is the next best thing to a travel companion, and mine repeatedly pulls double duty. In the cockpit of my Cessna, it holds, flashlight, airplane manual, snacks, and a wide-mouthed multipurpose Power Aide bottle. It is also frequently emptied and placed into service on my Power Wagon’s passenger seat, where it organizes my field journal, binoculars, relevant maps, cell phone, etc.
Heritage Sportsman Bag
The rectangular duffle bag holds about the same amount of gear as a daypack, but its large U-shaped top zipper makes access handy. Inside, its main compartment houses two snap-closure dividers that can separate gear or fold away, making room for flip flops and a few days worth of clothes. Externally, the longer pockets along the front and rear work well for maps, pencils, and a small journal, and the end pockets work great for storing smaller items like phone charging cables and batteries. The end pockets’ snap closures are ingenious and can be closed easily with the forefinger and thumb of a single hand. All snaps on everything should function like this. Period.
The bag is made from 22 oz rugged twill and 15 oz oil finish Tin Cloth, and it’s available in either a tan/otter green or an orange/dark tan combination. The handles are handsomely tanned Bridle Leather and the shoulder strap a heavy Nylon that comfortably grips the shoulder.
