Southern Africa

I spent June-July 2023 in Southern Africa serving as an expedition doctor and driver with Expedition Overland. You can watch the award-winning 6 part series here.

Expedition Overland in Africa

Cameroon, 2006

I spent my last two months of medical school in Cameroon (2006). At both locations, I helped make rounds on the men’s and women’s ward and assisted in the operating room. What an eye opening experience that was!

Alaska: The Last Frontier

In 2021, I traveled across Alaska with Expedition Overland to provide medical support and wilderness medicine training during their filming of the award winning 5 part series. We drove all the way to Dead Horse, as far north as you can go. This was the second time I’ve traveled above the Arctic Circle doing medical work.

Episode 1: Return to Alaska

Our team traveled to Anchor Point, the farthest west you can drive in Alaska, and then a Beaver float plane to Rainy Pass Lodge.

Episode 2: Alaskan Adventures and Legends

We catch a Beaver float plane to Rainy Pass Lodge, ride horse to the top of a mountain, and meet the exceedingly interesting Mr. Bucky Winkley, the longest operating hunting guide in Alaska.

Episode 3: Off-Road to Find an Alaskan Glacier

Who doesn’t love Alaskan bush planes! In Episode 3, we meet up with some locals on an improvised landing strip, and the next morning, get donuts delivered by a helicopter.

Episode 4: Mud Challenge and Top of the World

Using skills learned in the military and while obtaining a Diploma in Mountain Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society, I ran a short repelling course for the boys and we made our way up the Dalton Road, to Dead Horse.

Episode 5: Some Scores Need Settled

We float a remote river, fish for trout, and make our way back to Anchorage.
