As pilot in command, you exercise good aeronautical decision making before and during the flight, but could you provide life saving care to yourself and your passengers in the event of an unplanned and rough landing?

This course, taught by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and pilots Dr. Jon Solberg and Dr. Justin Reisenauer will cover identification and treatment of the following topics:

  • Life-threatening hemorrhage

  • Sucking chest wounds

  • Occluded airways

  • Cervical spine, head, and facial injuries

  • Fractures and dislocations

  • Burns

  • Wounds

  • Environmental considerations for the post-crash environment (preventing hypothermia, frostbite, and heat injury)

All participants will receive a deployment ready medical kit to stash in their aircraft.

Fly your airplane to Kulm, North Dakota and land next to the water on a beautiful 2,800ft grass airstrip. Arrive the night prior, make camp under your wing, and socialize with other adventurous pilots. Spend the next morning and afternoon learning life saving wilderness medicine skills. . Drs Reisenauer and Solberg, both North Dakota pilots, have extensive experience treating life threatening injuries both in and out of the hospital, and are the lead instructors for the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Science’s wilderness medicine course.

*VFR weather is required at the nearest METAR (2D5) by 0800 on August 11. Registration fee is not refunded for inclement weather.

*Pilot in command of aircraft assumes all responsibility for landing.

*All aircraft are required to have VFR radio and announce landing intention on local CTAF
